On Tuesday Asus introduced the 27-inch ET2701 Touch Panel PC all-in-one desktop PC, packed with a frameless, 10-point capacitive touch screen, SonicMaster Technology, and the latest Intel Core processors. Even more, it will be ready to lead consumers into a new touch-based era with full support for the upcoming release of Windows 8.

Asus said the crisp 27-inch LED backlit screen will sport a default resolution of 1920 x 1080 (Full HD), and a high contrast ratio. Its VA panel will eliminate color shift and deliver a wide-view 178° angle on both horizontal and vertical planes "to ensure stunning visuals from most angles." HDMI input will allow users to connect their game consoles or other gadgets, and the USB 3.0 connection will enable compatible external drives to quickly pipe in movies and TV shows. Asus will also offer an optional TV tuner to turn the AIO into a 27-inch HDTV.

According to the specs, the upcoming AIO will arrive in various configurations, depending on your budget. On the CPU front, Asus will include the Intel Core i7-3770S (8 MB Cache, 3.10 GHz, TBD: Turbo Boost up to 3.9 GHz), the Core i5-3450 (6 MB Cache, 3.10 GHz, TBD: Turbo Boost up to 3.5 GHz) , the Core i5-3330, or the Core i3-3220. The selection of GPUs will be minimal: Nvidia's GeForce GT 640M or Intel HD Graphics.

The new Asus AIO will also feature up to 8 GB of DDR3 RAM at 1600 MHz, and up to 2 TB of storage via a SATA HDD. Optical drive options will consist of a tray-in Blue-ray combo, a tray-in Super Multi DVD drive, and a tray-in Blu-ray writer. Additional ports will include a 3-in-1 SD card reader, USB 3.0, and an e-SATA/USB 2.0 combo port.

"The ET2701 features built in SonicMaster technology optimized by audio experts," the company said. "It features a finely-tuned digital signal processor that produces every note in pristine clarity with near-zero distortion. Also onboard is DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC ll audio technology, which delivers the most realistic, three-dimensional sensation of being completely surrounded by sound."

The ET2701 will come with an external subwoofer with a 580cc resonance chamber dedicated to low-range frequency audio signals, providing a rich bass response, Asus added. The specs also reveal that the AIO will have 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, and a 2MP camera.

"The ET2701 comes with a slew of convenient features that make it easy to surf the web, browse through movies and music libraries, or edit photos. The capacitive 10-point touch screen gives users precise fingertip control; giving them the ability to manipulate and navigate touch-optimized apps through intuitive pinch-zoom, swipe, scroll, or rotate gestures," Asus said.

Asus did not provide pricing and availability, so stay tuned.

I’m sure you’ll agree this is a rather remarkable enhancement. Even if you don’t stop to admire every bush, the ambience of the jungley New York is hugely expanded with MaLDoHD’s work: graffiti is clear, signs can be read, and bricks and cracks are defined.

First, grab the pack from the MaLDoHD site. It’s 1.5 GB’s of sharper keypads and nicer pavements, and it expands to 2.3GB. It’s not a simple install and enhance mod, though. It comes with its own control panel, so after you’ve downloaded everything and installed it’s time to fiddle. When the blue box loads, click the ‘settings’ icon on the row and it’ll take you to all those lovely options.

You’ll Touch Panel PC note that there’s more going on than just better textures. Here you can change the values for the antialiasing, the LOD, Depth of Field, shadow blur, view distance, as well as toggling parallax mapping, water and object tessellation, real time reflections, SSDO, shadow effects, and a few misc options. The bottom right slider allows you to globally enhance all these settings, and my PC, an i7, Nvidia 580 with 8GB of RAM can handle Extreme without any hit in performance. It’s up to you to decide what you’re willing to do for the effect, but even with the conservative default options the mod manages to sharpen up the textures pleasantly on my PC. Start there and fiddle. I turned off depth of field as a personal preference, and upped the view distance as far as it would go.

Getting it to work in game is a slight faff. I found the shortcut didn’t load me into the mod, and instead had to reload the game after launching. And it doesn’t work with existing saves, so you can either choose to start another game from the start, or the mod’s menu allows you to access any map. I did play with setting everything to their highest and found some maps would refuse to load up. Lowering the settings helped, and frankly it still looked rather lovely.

Symtavision has released Embedded System SymTA/S 3.2 system-level tool suite for planning, optimizing and verifying embedded real-time systems. SymTA/S 3.2 now features System-Level Distribution Analysis and AUTOSAR 4.x support. TraceAnalyzer 3.2 now consists of scripting support and can be fully integrated with SymTA/S.

The new System-Level Distribution Analysis in SymTA/S 3.2 covers entire systems and offers users the ability to undertake Typical Case analysis where communication paths are not safety critical. As an intermediate analytical step between load analysis and worst-case analysis, it offers further scalability to the timing-design and timing-verification capabilities in SymTA/S. The framework also helps the fast development of custom analyses for new technologies. Full control over time-triggered and event-triggered activation chains is provided, as is support for system-wide Gantt charts.

As some users start on transition to AUTOSAR Release 4.0, SymTA/S and TraceAnalyzer Versions 3.2 extend the 3.x AUTOSAR support capabilities available in SymTA/S with the inclusion of a new AUTOSAR 4.x XML import interface covering the same model and parameter sets as exist for AUTOSAR 3.x. SymTA/S 3.2 and TraceAnalyzer Versions 3.2 includes several feature enhancements to their AUTOSAR 3.x XML interface.

SymTA/S 3.2 and TraceAnalyzer 3.2 include broad workflow improvements. Most importantly, import, export, scripting and report functionalities previously only available in SymTA/S are now also available in TraceAnalyzer. SymTA/S and TraceAnalyzer now integrate through a common data-model and common Eclipse-based GUI. Both tools together behave like a single tool, providing users with improved flexibility in the combined use of SymTA/S and TraceAnalyzer analysis techniques.

“Targeted at automotive, aerospace, automation and other performance and safety-critical systems developments, SymTA/S 3.2 and TraceAnalyzer 3.2 represent important new releases of our market-leading, system-level planning, optimization and verification tool suite for embedded real-time systems,” said Dr. Marek Jersak, CEO of Symtavision. “In determining the new and enhanced features and functionalities to include in our 3.2 release, we have continued to work closely with our customers and listened to their requirements. The new System-Level Distribution Analysis capability, comprehensive usability improvements, including integration of TraceAnalyzer functionality, and AUTOSAR 4.x import support, are a direct response to improvements requested by our customers.”

SymTA/S 3.2 and TraceAnalyzer 3.2 are available in October 2012. Preview versions are available at the 6th annual Symtavision NewsConference for customers which takes place in Braunschweig (Germany) on 26th to 27th September 2012.
